It was raining
outside & I was waiting for the class to begin. Professor came & asked
us to sit in the front on the floor. Suddenly I recalled my old school days
where we used to sit like that, but as Professor (Mr. T Prasad so called “Proff
Mandi”) started his lecture I just lost in his words. After this session I felt
that I am at the right place to gain the practical knowledge.
The session
started with the questions from the students. Sir clarified all our doubts
regarding “MANDI”. Sir gave the details of his background. It was good to hear
from the Professor that he was “born to teach“ & that reflected in his
acts. Then he took out some toys from his bags & distributed to some of the
students. There was a playing ball on which a globe was printed, a Newton's Cradle.
I never thought that through these toys we could learn something but sir proved
me wrong.
We realized that
even we haven’t experienced the effect of different number of ball impacts. So
through this we learned that these toys should be available in every school and
institute where science is taught but it’s an irony that we don’t have a single
shop selling such items around IIT Bombay or NITIE campus. This shows the
attitude of our society towards practical learning. Sir told us about the how
the two students from Production Engineering background utilized this
opportunity & established their own firm.
Then he showed
the ball on which the globe was printed. Such a simple idea but why it didn't
clicked in my mind for so many years. A boy can play with it as well learn from
the globe printed on it.
The important
point I learned that an opportunity lies around us, we just have to think
differently & grab it. We have learned a lot throughout our student life
now it is the time to apply it & earn. Sir made us think that we are
investing around 15 to 20 lakh of money for the education & we have to make
most of it. We need to earn while learn.
This session changed my thought process
& I look around me for any opportunity.
keep up the good work!
